About Us

Burnley Film Makers are a group of enthusiastic film makers from across the East Lancashire area.

Our members enjoy making films of all kinds from; documentary, travel, comedy, animation to most recently producing films for local organisations such as Burnley Civic Trust, Burnley Empire Theatre Trust, Pendleside Hospice, Towneley Hall, Burnley Borough Council, the Ribble Rivers Trust, the Burnley NHS Trust, Burnley Leisure & Culture and many others over the years.

Burnley Film Makers was first formed in 1931 as the Burnley Amateur Cine Society and by 2009 the group had evolved into who we are today, Burnley Film Makers.

Each November we premiere our  Annual Newsreel, a compilation of  events our members have filmed in Burnley and the surrounding area during the past twelve months.  In May, we host an annual Burnley Film Festival which draws entries from amateur film clubs and amateur film makers across the UK.

In addition we put on Film Shows for local organisations which this year have included: Pendleside Hospice, Burnley Rotary Club, and Burnley PROBUS. We have a large back catalogue of films which we archive through the North West Film Archive in Manchester. Examples of our film projects can be seen in the Video section on this site.

On Social Media we have a Burnley Film Makers Facebook Group and a Burnley Film Makers YouTube channel.

We meet weekly on Wednesday evenings in Higham, in the Village Hall, between September and May.  Our varied programme brings in top-quality speakers from the world of film and television, along with software producers and equipment providers.

We run practical workshops on using software, animation, film-making, and lighting techniques. We have club-based competitions through the year, members film screening evenings and much, much more. Please see our Programme section for more information on What’s On this year.

Our members are people who enjoy making films, films of all types; from films made on mobile phones up to longer films to broadcast standard.  Our aim is to share amongst our members our knowledge, to entertain and to educate.  Joining Burnley Film Makers  is the best way of getting advice, feedback, assistance and informal instruction in all aspects of our absorbing hobby.

No prior experience is required to join Burnley Film Makers, new members of all ages are welcome throughout the year.  If you are interested in joining us, if you could first please complete the information on our Contact Page and we will get back to you.  We would be delighted to welcome you to Burnley Film Makers.
