Newsreel 2013

What was going on in the Burnley area in 2013 - quite a lot actually as our Newsreel show covers.

Newsreel 2013 features;

The new Burnley Bondholders scheme, a Mayoral Ball at Burnley Mechanics with Burnley Mayor Charles Bullas.

The Back To The Future Project, 15 Year Old Young Citizen Grace O’Malley sings at Pendleside Hospice, Burnley FC Legends vs TV Celebrities at Turf Moor, Spring Military parade through Burnley by the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment who had returned from a tour in Helmond.

Film Making at Pendleside Hospice, we meet Burnley’s new Mayr Cllr Frank Cant. The Ark a floating sculpture arrives with Helen Jones and Laura Rogers. ASDA 10K Run For All through Burnley Centre and the ‘Pink’ Midnight walk by local ladies raising funds for several local charities.

Towneley Hall hosts the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow. Hapton hosts a kite festival and we see the start of the development of the Victoria Mill complex in Burnley’s Weavers Triangle. Young students are interviewed for the University Technical College working on Projects.

Healthy Lifestyles project for stroke victims at St. Peter’s Centre, River Ribble Trusts project to clean up Burnley’s rivers. Higham hosts its annual scarecrow festival and the Brierfield Mill Redevelopment with Andrew Stevenson MP for Pendle.


Burnley Canal Festival at Reedley Marina. Woodland Festival at Towneley Hall along with a tour of the hall and re-enactors. Finally the Duke of Kent opens Burnley’s new fire station on Belvedere Road.
